I AM A KING .
I AM A KING
(Pst Charles Eberechukwu Nwaneri)
Today being the 28th day of August 2025 when I woke, I said to myself " I am a king"
The Word of God reveals that every believer in Christ is not ordinary. We are not slaves to sin, fear, or the world, but we have been redeemed into royalty. To live below this reality is to live short of God’s plan for us in Christ Jesus.
Understanding Kingship in Christ:
“And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.” – Revelation 1:6
Kingship is not about wearing crowns of gold but about ruling in the realm of life with Christ. A king is one with authority, dominion, and influence over a territory.
1. Redeemed Into Kingship
Through salvation, God translated us from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His dear Son (Colossians 1:13). This new identity makes us kings and priests unto God.
Knowledge of identity:
A king who doesn’t know and acknowledge his kingship will live in frustration like a slave.
Live conscious of your royal identity in Christ.
Ecclesiastes 8:1_ "Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed."
Jesus’ sacrifice elevated us into royalty:
Revelation 1:5–6 – “...Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father...”
Divine inheritance:
We are children of the King of kings; therefore, kingship is our identity.
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ…” – Romans 8:16-17
1 Peter 2:9 – “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood...”
We are not beggars; we are kings redeemed by Christ’s blood.
Kingship is not earned by human merit, but received by grace through Christ.
Stop identifying yourself with your past, failures, or weaknesses. Embrace your new identity: you are royalty in Christ.
David was a shepherd boy, overlooked by his family, but God anointed him king (1 Samuel 16:11–13). His background did not stop his destiny.
Don't feel unworthy, feel great, think right, God’s grace crowns us as kings.
2. The Authority of Kings
A king is known by his authority. Kings rule by decree, and their words carry power. Authority in words:
“Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?”_ Ecclesiastes 8:4
Proverbs 18:21 – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue...”
Proverbs 8:15_ "By me kings reign, and princes decree justice."
“Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee…” – Job 22:28
Service with authority:
As kings in Christ, our words should align with God’s Word. We are to decree life, peace, victory, and prosperity.
Kings rule by decrees, their words carry power.
Our words should align with God’s Word to enforce His will on earth.
Be intentional with words, never confess defeat, rather declare victory, good health, prosperity and favour over your life.
Face challenges as a king. Don’t let fear, sickness, or poverty rule you. Stand in God’s promises and exercise dominion in your divine mandate, career, family, and spiritual life.
Kings chooses not to panic rather to pray, plan and, listen to the Spirit direction, acting wisely and declaring God’s provision. Soon, opportunities open because they live by faith, not fear.
In earthly kingdoms, when a king makes a proclamation, even soldiers and judges obey it. Spiritually, when you speak God’s Word, heaven backs it, and hell trembles.
Though Esther before was an orphan and captive, when later she became queen, her decree saved her people (Esther 8:8). Her position gave her authority to speak and bring deliverance.
Esther’s words carried royal weight, your words as a believer carry spiritual authority.
Be intentional with your words. Stop saying, “I can’t make it” or “Things are hard.” Instead declare, “I am more than a conqueror! My needs are supplied!”
3. The Dominion of Kings
Kings are not subjects, they exercise dominion. Christ restored the dominion Adam lost in Eden.
Genesis 1:26 – “...let them have dominion over... all the earth.”
Dominion over circumstances:
Dominion means influence and victory in life. The use of power; sovereignty over something; stewardship, supremacy.
A king is not ruled by life but rules over life through Christ.
“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.” – Romans 5:17
We reign in life, not in death. This means dominion over sin, sickness, fear, poverty, and all works of darkness.
God originally gave man dominion, but sin lost it. Through Christ, dominion is restored.
Kings do not beg, they are not beggars in the kingdom, they are commanders, they reign.
A lion is called the king of the jungle not because of size but because of boldness and authority. Believers are spiritual lions, called to dominate, not to hide in fear.
God gave Solomon wisdom and wealth, and kings of the earth sought his counsel (1 Kings 10:23–24). His dominion extended beyond Israel because of divine grace.
Like Solomon, believers are designed to walk in wisdom and command influence wherever they go.
Face your challenges as a king. Don’t let sickness, fear, or lack intimidate you. Stand on God’s promises and enforce dominion.
4. The Lifestyle of Kings
Kings live in dignity, not shame. They walk in wisdom, not confusion. They operate with confidence, not fear.
Proverbs 25:2 – “It is the glory of kings to search out a matter.”
Revelation 5:10 – “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”
Kings are expected to be disciplined in conduct:
[4]It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
[5]Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
Kings live in dignity, not shame; in wisdom, not confusion.
Kings don’t beg for relevance, they manifest it. They don’t chase after favor, they command it by virtue of their position. In workplaces or schools, some people compromise to be accepted. But when a believer walks in integrity and confidence, refusing bribes or corruption, people respect them and see the dignity of Christ in them.
The never force themselves into positions of honour rather they are honoured and promoted by God Himself from glory to glory.
[5]Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.
[6]For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
[7]But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
A king doesn’t fight for relevance, his presence alone commands honor. Similarly, when you walk in your God-given authority, favor follows you. They walk in confidence because of their position under God.
As governor, Nehemiah carried himself with dignity, refused to be intimidated by opposition, and rebuilt Jerusalem’s wall with bold leadership (Nehemiah 6:11).
A king’s dignity is not in pride but in wisdom and confidence in God.
Walk tall, speak boldly, and carry yourself with dignity as a child of the King of kings. Don’t beg for acceptance, the world should see Christ’s royalty in you.
5. Living Out Your Kingship
To live as a king:
Know your identity in Christ (Galatians 4:7 – “Thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ”).
You are no longer a servant, but a son and heir in Christ.
Kings live in dignity, not shame; in wisdom, not confusion.
Living in righteousness:
Sin dethrones, but righteousness establishes kingship.
"It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness." _ Proverbs 16:12
1 Samuel 13:13 _ "And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever."
“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” – Proverbs 14:34
Justice and righteousness:
A true king rules in alignment with God’s righteousness.
“Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.” – Isaiah 32:1
Biblical Examples of Kingship
David: From shepherd boy to king – showing that God lifts the humble to rulership (1 Samuel 16:11-13).
Solomon: Known for wisdom and glory – representing the wealth of divine kingship (1 Kings 10:23-24).
Esther: Though a queen, she ruled with courage and delivered her people (Esther 4:14).
Jesus Christ: The King of kings, our model for reigning in humility, service, and power (John 18:36-37).
This way, David shows God’s grace in kingship, Esther shows authority through decree, Solomon shows dominion through wisdom, and Nehemiah shows dignity and boldness.
Know your identity in Christ.
Speak with authority (decree God’s Word).
Exercise dominion over life’s challenges.
Walk in boldness and refuse intimidation.
Daily remind yourself: “I am a king in Christ.” Live in the consciousness of victory, not defeat.
Speak with authority, don’t use your mouth carelessly; decree what aligns with God’s promises.
Exercise dominion over challenges instead of bowing to them.
Walk in boldness because kings are never intimidated.
Conclusion
You are not ordinary, you are a king in Christ Jesus. Rise up, take your place, speak with authority, and reign in life. Refuse to think like a slave, beg like a servant, or live like a victim. God has enthroned you in Christ; therefore, reign with Him.
Kingship is not just a title, it is a lifestyle of authority, dominion, and dignity in Christ.
Don’t think like a slave, live like a beggar, or act like a victim.
You are a king, redeemed, empowered, and enthroned with Christ.
Declaration:
Declaration Shout:
“I am a king and a priest unto God. I rule by the Word, I reign by grace, and I walk in dominion over every circumstance. Where my word is, there is power. I am seated with Christ in heavenly places, reigning in life! In Jesus Mighty Name Amen!"
